The story of Varisu revolves around the youngest son of an entrepreneur, who becomes the chairman of his father’s business, much to the disappointment of his two elder brothers. The film was initially announced in September 2021 under the tentative title Thalapathy 66, as it marked Vijay’s 66th film in a leading role.
Principal photography for the movie began in April 2022 and concluded in December of that year. The film was shot primarily in Chennai and Hyderabad, with a few scenes filmed in Visakhapatnam, Ballari, and Ladakh.
The music for Varisu was composed by Thaman S, the cinematography was handled by Karthik Palani, and the editing was done by Praveen K. L. During production, the film was subject to several leaks, despite the best efforts of the producers to prevent them.
